Dr. Peter A. Petroff is a prolific composer with over fifty compositions including six piano sonatas, a violin sonata, Kokopelli (for orchestra), and two string quartets, one of which won second prize in the instrumental division of the 1991 Composer’s Guild Competition. A recent major orchestral composition is Piano Concerto No. 1, performed and recorded by the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra with Nina Drath at the piano. These musical successes are all the more remarkable considering he has been composing
only since 1987. While he received early training in piano at the Sherwood Music School in Chicago, he .abandoned music temporarily in order to study medicine, graduating from medical school in 1968. In 1987 he revived his childhood dream of being a composer and since then has been actively involved in music as ·both performer and composer. In addition to his musical activities, he maintains a busy medical practice in San Antonio.
