Kate Chopin (1850-1904) wrote Lilia Polka for her daughter to play on the piano which was published by H. H. Rollman in St. Louis, Missouri. Polkas were quite popular in the German and German American communities in St. Louis in 1899. Lilia Polka is a lively, spirited polka showcasing each section of the strings. The polka is a sectional piece (ABACA) and the middle section is the trio.  Lilia Polka began life as a piece for woodwind quintet.
